Replacing a Thermocouple in a Gas Fireplace: A Step-by-Step Guide

Step 1: Safety First

Before attempting any repairs, ensure the gas fireplace is turned off and the gas supply is disconnected. Allow the fireplace to cool completely before proceeding further.

Step 2: Locate the Thermocouple

Most thermocouples are located near the burner assembly. Look for a small, metal probe with a wire attached to it. The wire will typically lead to a safety valve or gas valve.

Step 3: Disconnect the Thermocouple

Using a wrench, carefully loosen the nut that secures the thermocouple to the gas valve. Gently pull the thermocouple free from the valve.

Follow the thermocouple wire to the pilot assembly. Disconnect the wire from the pilot assembly by unscrewing the terminal screw.
