Step 1: Prepare the Fireplace

Begin by cleaning the fireplace surface and removing any existing materials. Ensure the fireplace is level and structurally sound. Install a cement backer board over the fireplace to provide a stable base for the stone veneer.

Step 2: Mix and Apply Thinset Mortar

In a clean bucket, mix thinset mortar according to the manufacturer's instructions. Using a trowel, apply a 1/4-inch thick layer of thinset mortar to the backer board. Avoid applying too much mortar as it can interfere with the bonding of the stone.
