Step 1: Prepare the Surface

Begin by removing any dirt or debris from the fireplace surround using a vacuum cleaner or a damp cloth. Then, sand the surface with 120-grit sandpaper to remove any existing paint or finish. Once sanded, wipe down the surface with a tack cloth to remove any dust.

Step 2: Apply Primer

Primer helps the paint adhere better to the surface and provides a uniform base color. Choose a primer that is specifically designed for wood and apply it evenly over the entire surround. Allow the primer to dry completely according to the manufacturer's instructions.

Step 3: Mask Off Areas
