How To Build An Outdoor Fireplace Out Of Cinder Blocks

Outdoor fireplaces are a great way to add warmth and ambiance to your backyard. They can be used for cooking, entertaining, or simply relaxing on a cool evening. If you're handy with a few basic tools, you can build your own outdoor fireplace out of cinder blocks. Here's how:

1. Choose a location

The first step is to choose a location for your fireplace. The best spot will be level, well-drained, and away from any trees or other flammable materials. You'll also want to make sure that the location is convenient for access and use.

2. Gather your materials

Once you've chosen a location, it's time to gather your materials. You'll need the following:

  • Cinder blocks
  • Mortar
  • Concrete mix
  • Fire grate
  • Chimney cap
  • Tools: trowel, level, hammer, and chisel

3. Lay the foundation

The first step in building your fireplace is to lay the foundation. Start by digging a trench that is 12 inches deep and 18 inches wide. Fill the trench with concrete mix and tamp it down firmly. Once the concrete has set, you can start laying the cinder blocks.

4. Build the walls

To build the walls of your fireplace, start by laying a row of cinder blocks around the perimeter of the foundation. Use mortar to hold the blocks in place. Once the first row is complete, you can start stacking the blocks on top of each other, staggering the joints as you go. Continue stacking the blocks until the walls are the desired height.

5. Create the firebox

The firebox is the part of the fireplace where the fire will be built. To create the firebox, you'll need to line the inside of the fireplace with firebricks. Firebricks are specially designed to withstand the high temperatures of a fire.

6. Install the fire grate

The fire grate is what will support the logs in the fireplace. To install the fire grate, simply place it on the bottom of the firebox.

7. Install the chimney cap

The chimney cap is what will keep rain and debris out of the fireplace. To install the chimney cap, simply place it on top of the chimney.

8. Enjoy your new fireplace!

Once your fireplace is complete, you can start enjoying it! Be sure to follow all safety precautions when using your fireplace, and never leave a fire unattended.
