Building a Custom Electric Fireplace Surround

Fireplace surround kit
MDF or plywood
Wood screws
Paint or stain

Instructions

Assemble the fireplace surround kit according to the manufacturer's instructions.
Cut the MDF or plywood to fit the back of the fireplace surround.
Attach the MDF or plywood to the back of the fireplace surround using wood screws.
Paint or stain the fireplace surround. Allow the paint or stain to dry completely.
Attach the trim to the fireplace surround using wood screws. Fill any nail holes or gaps with caulk.
Caulk the seams between the fireplace surround and the wall.
Spackle any imperfections in the fireplace surround. Allow the spackle to dry completely.
Sand the spackle smooth. Wipe down the fireplace surround with a damp cloth.
Insert the electric fireplace into the surround.
