Prepare the Fireplace

The first step is to prepare the fireplace. This involves removing the old fireplace surround and cleaning the area thoroughly. Once the area is clean, lay down a bed of thinset mortar on the floor of the fireplace. This will help to level the surface and provide a secure base for the stacked stone.

Lay the First Layer

The next step is to lay the first layer of stacked stone. Start by placing the bottom row of stones around the perimeter of the fireplace. Use a level to ensure that the stones are level, and adjust the thinset mortar as needed. Once the first layer is complete, allow the mortar to set for at least 24 hours.

Continue Laying the Stone
