How to Make a Cardboard Chimney Fireplace

A cardboard chimney fireplace is a simple and inexpensive way to add festive cheer to your home during the winter months. It is also a great way to keep your kids entertained on a cold afternoon. Best of all, it is easy to make and requires only a few materials.

Materials You'll Need:

A large cardboard box
A ruler or measuring tape
A pencil
A utility knife
Red and orange tissue paper
Glue
Yellow construction paper
Scissors
Optional: Battery-operated LED candles

Instructions:

1. Cut out the fireplace base from the cardboard box. Use the ruler or measuring tape to measure and mark a rectangle that is 12 inches wide and 18 inches tall. Cut out the rectangle using the utility knife.

2. Cut out the fireplace mantle from the cardboard box. Measure and mark a rectangle that is 18 inches wide and 6 inches tall. Cut out the rectangle using the utility knife.

3. Assemble the fireplace. Glue the fireplace mantle to the top of the fireplace base. Make sure that the mantle is centered.

4. Cover the fireplace with red and orange tissue paper. Cut the tissue paper into strips that are about 2 inches wide. Glue the strips of tissue paper to the fireplace, starting at the bottom and working your way up. Overlap the strips by about 1 inch.

5. Create the fire. Cut out flames from the yellow construction paper. Use the scissors to cut out irregular shapes that resemble flames. Glue the flames to the inside of the fireplace.

6. Add the finishing touches. Glue some battery-operated LED candles to the bottom of the fireplace. You can also add other decorations, such as holly, garland, or ornaments.
