Igniting your Heatilator gas fireplace brings warmth and ambiance to your home. However, following the proper lighting instructions is crucial for both safety and optimal performance. This comprehensive guide will walk you through the essential steps involved in safely lighting your Heatilator gas fireplace.

Step 1: Safety Precautions

Before lighting your fireplace, ensure the following safety measures:

Read and understand your fireplace's owner's manual thoroughly.
Check for any obstructions or flammable materials near the fireplace opening.
Make sure the gas supply valve is closed.
Have a fire extinguisher readily accessible.

Step 2: Gas Connection

Connect the fireplace to a dedicated gas supply line according to the manufacturer's instructions. Use the appropriate type of gas pipe and fittings.

Step 3: Lighting the Pilot

Locate the pilot assembly, which typically includes a small flame and a thermocouple.
Turn on the gas supply valve and press and hold the pilot control knob.
Ignite the pilot using a long match or lighter.
Hold the knob for approximately 30 seconds after the pilot ignites to ensure the thermocouple is heated.
