How To Replace A Thermopile On Gas Fireplace

A thermopile is a device that converts heat into electricity. In a gas fireplace, the thermopile is located in the firebox and generates a small amount of electricity when it is heated by the flames. This electricity is then used to power the fireplace's pilot light and/or ignition system.

Over time, thermopiles can become damaged or worn out and need to be replaced. If you notice that your gas fireplace is not lighting properly or if the pilot light is not staying lit, it may be time to replace the thermopile.

Replacing a thermopile is a relatively simple task that can be completed in about 30 minutes. Here are the steps on how to do it:

Turn off the gas supply to the fireplace. This is usually done by turning a valve located on the gas line.
Remove the front panel of the fireplace. This is usually done by removing a few screws.
Locate the thermopile. It is usually located in the firebox, near the pilot light.
Disconnect the wires from the thermopile. There are usually two wires, one red and one black.
Unscrew the thermopile from the firebox.
Install the new thermopile. Screw it into the firebox and reconnect the wires.
Replace the front panel of the fireplace.
Turn on the gas supply to the fireplace.
Light the pilot light.
